Officer Fires Gun While Being Hit By Car During Irving Park Store Burglary, Police Say

Chicago, ILLocal News

An officer was shot at after being struck by a vehicle during a burglary at a Game Stop in Irving Park early Thursday morning. Around 4:26 a. m. , police received reports of armed individuals breaking into the store and escaping in a white Chrysler and a red Jeep. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital after returning fire at the suspects, who fled the scene without being apprehended.

An unrelated car collision halted the police pursuit, with no injuries reported from that incident. The front window of the Game Stop was shattered, leading to the temporary closure of the area for safety and investigation purposes. Neighbors and shoppers were barred from entering the affected section of the mall but could access other stores. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the actions of the involved officers, who are placed on administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days. Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to contact the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
