Chef Darnell Reed launched Luella’s Southern Kitchen's new location in Albany Park, unveiling a brunch menu that highlights Southern cuisine. The restaurant at 4114 N. Kedzie Ave. marks a shift for Reed, who closed his previous Lincoln Square site to prioritize family time. The brunch offerings include dishes like boudin with egg and cheese biscuits, chicken and waffles, and crab-stuffed shrimp with smoked grits, all featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Reed aims to bring Southern flavors to Chicago, incorporating recipes from his great-grandmother while modernizing them. The color scheme of the restaurant is a bright Carolina blue, symbolizing Reed's Southern heritage. Operating hours are set from 8 a. m. to 2 p.
