Car Traffic Will Resume Along Stretch Of Lincoln Avenue In August

Chicago, ILLocal News

Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Square is set to reopen to traffic by August 11 if weather permits and crews successfully pour quick-curing concrete next week. This construction project, which began in June, is part of a two-year effort to enhance infrastructure and aesthetics as outlined in the 2019 Lincoln Square Master Plan. Alderman Matt Martin’s office confirmed that using high early strength concrete enables reopening within three days, compared to the standard 14 days for conventional concrete. Initially, pedestrian access will resume, followed by vehicle traffic shortly thereafter. Crews will focus on sidewalk construction along the west side of Lincoln Avenue by the Lincoln Square Athletic Club, with hopes to complete that work in three weeks.

The ongoing construction has created challenges for local businesses and residents, leading officials to actively engage in minimizing disruptions. Additionally, the project includes various improvements, such as transit upgrades and new bike and pedestrian infrastructure. In the past, crews discovered remnants of the historic Lincoln Avenue streetcar system during construction, highlighting the area's rich history.
