80 Apartments Coming To Former Leonas Building On Sheridan Road

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Rogers Park neighborhood is set to welcome two new housing developments along Sheridan Road. Ald. Maria Hadden approved a zoning change to convert the former Leona’s restaurant site into a five-story building featuring 80 apartments and commercial space. The updated plan, which includes 48 one-bedroom, 24 two-bedroom, and eight three-bedroom units, was revised based on community feedback that raised concerns about the building size and parking availability. About 44% of respondents to a community survey expressed support for the project in its current form.

The second development at 7728 N. Sheridan Road will replace a single-family home with two smaller buildings, each containing four apartments. This project is classified as by-right, meaning it does not require city approval. Both developments aim to address housing demand in the area, with the first project also including 16 affordable units. Hadden stated that further approvals from the city’s zoning committee and Plan Commission are necessary for the former Leona’s site.
