Uptown Lounge, The Popular Late-Night Bar, Now Also A Daytime Cafe

Chicago, ILLocal News

Uptown Lounge has launched a new daytime cafe menu, now open from 7 a. m. to 1 p. m. on weekdays.

The cafe features coffee from local roastery Intelligentsia and pastries from West Town’s Aya Pastry, with prices ranging from $3. 50 to $6. 50. This change aligns with the reopening of the Lawrence Red Line station, closed since 2021, aiming to attract local customers. Co-owner Julie Clarkson-Stokes envisions the space as a community workspace, offering free Wi-Fi for remote workers.

She also plans to upgrade the bar with an espresso machine if the daytime business flourishes. The lounge, popular with concert-goers since its opening in 2002, has faced a downturn in business due to pandemic closures and the station's shutdown. To revive evening traffic, the bar is reworking its entertainment offerings, including new DJs and karaoke nights. Clarkson-Stokes recently redesigned the interior to create a cozy atmosphere, drawing inspiration from Seattle cafes.
