Man Facing Hate Crime Charges In Vandalism of Little Village Buildings With Swastikas, ICE Rules Message
Philip Dominguez, 38, faces hate crime charges for vandalizing four Little Village buildings with swastikas and anti-immigration messages. Police reported that the incidents occurred between July 19-20, impacting key local organizations, including Latinos Progresando, which offers legal services to immigrants. Dominguez has been charged with five felony counts of a hate crime to a property and one felony count of criminal damage to a property. Surveillance images released by police helped identify him, showing a man with a can of spray paint. Dominguez was arrested on Saturday near his home in Little Village.
Community members voiced concerns over the impact of such vandalism on immigrant-friendly spaces. The incident follows similar vandalism targeting murals promoting Mexican-Palestinian solidarity in nearby Pilsen. Local leaders are calling for increased protections for immigrant communities in light of these hate crimes.
