Chicago, ILLocal News

Federal agents detained Montclare resident Catalina Mota Martinez and two men in separate immigration enforcement operations in Little Village. Early Thursday morning, agents stopped a car and detained two men, while later that day, they broke Martinez's car window to remove her from the vehicle. The incident was livestreamed on Facebook, where Martinez demanded to see a warrant and questioned the agents' authority. Spokespeople for U. S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives did not respond to inquiries regarding the operations. Martinez, who immigrated to the U. S. from Mexico approximately 30 years ago, is now being held at the Clay County Justice Center in Indiana. Her daughter reported that Martinez has obtained legal representation and launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with legal fees.

The family is devastated, especially given that Martinez is a mother of three and a business owner. The situation raises significant concerns about the treatment of long-term residents during immigration enforcement activities.
