Alderpeople Vs. Chicago Cops In 16-Inch Softball This Is The Best Weve Gotten Along All Year
Chicago's City Council members participated in a 16-inch softball game against the Chicago Police Knights Baseball Club, showcasing unity despite a history of political disagreements. Organized by Ald. Silvana Tabares, the event aimed to strengthen community relations through sports. Ald. Jessie Fuentes remarked on the improved camaraderie among council members, saying it was their best cooperation of the year.
More than half of the 50 council members donned custom jerseys and participated, creating a lively atmosphere. Ald. Scott Waguespack pledged $1,000 for every inside-the-park home run, which heightened the stakes during the match. The alderpeople struggled to keep up, trailing 12-2 at the end of the second inning. This game marked the first time in over a decade that alderpeople gathered on a team, and it was the first matchup against police officers.
Chicago has a long history with 16-inch softball, adding a layer of tradition to this modern event.
