Humboldt Park Youth Football Team To Get 1st Proper Field In Teams 20-Year History

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Humboldt Park Patriots, a youth football team active for over 20 years, are advocating for a permanent football field in Humboldt Park. Ald. Jessie Fuentes is collaborating with the Chicago Park District to secure funding through tax increment financing, with hopes of completing the project by the 2026 season. Currently, the team plays on makeshift grass fields, and parents are organizing fundraising efforts to support uniforms and equipment. The Patriots are expanding to four teams, serving around 100 kids aged 7 to 13, ensuring that no child is turned away due to financial constraints.

Head Coach Pat Murray, who also coaches at a local high school, believes in keeping talented players within the neighborhood rather than letting them migrate to suburban programs. The new field would provide a home for the team and enhance their training environment. Local children express excitement about the potential for a dedicated field, dreaming of future successes. The community's support highlights the importance of youth sports in fostering connections and opportunities for local families.
