Man Shot On Red Line Train Downtown After Fight Breaks Out

A 29-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting on a Red Line train in Downtown Chicago early Wednesday morning. The altercation, which escalated into violence, occurred around 4:30 a. m. near the Roosevelt Station. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his thigh and buttocks and was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The suspected shooter fled the scene, prompting police to initiate a search, but no one is in custody. In response to the incident, the CTA rerouted southbound trains to elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stops for safety measures. This shooting raises alarms about the safety of public transit in Chicago, a city that has seen rising concerns over transit-related violence.
