Robert’s Fish Market in West Ridge is set to reopen as owner Arturo Venegas recovers from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that led to his hospitalization last summer. After several months in the hospital and ongoing therapy, Venegas is excited to return to serving the community. The market will operate with temporary hours of 8 a. m. to 5 p.

m. from Tuesday to Thursday and 7 a. m. to 2 p. m.

on Fridays, with hopes to expand hours as he continues to recover. Jennifer Venegas, his daughter, expressed gratitude for community support during her father’s illness, including a GoFundMe that raised approximately $34,000. Venegas has run the fish market since 2000 and learned the trade from its original owner, Robert Schuffler, who described him as “the best cutter in the country. ” Despite challenges in finding temporary help during his absence, Jennifer noted the community's efforts to support her father financially. The reopening of the market holds significance for the local community, as it has served customers for over two decades.

Venegas' dedication to the business reflects his deep connection to the community he serves.
