Universal Studios will introduce Universal Horror Unleashed, a horror-themed entertainment venue, in Chicago by 2027. Located at 700 W. Chicago Ave. , the attraction will include immersive experiences, terrifying mazes, themed bars, and unique food offerings. The project, in development since October 2024, is projected to create 400 permanent jobs and generate over $1 billion in economic impact.

Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasized the revitalization potential for the neighborhood, stating that fans of the horror genre will be drawn to Chicago. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2026, pending design and permit approvals. Universal’s decision to expand into the Midwest highlights Illinois’ robust entertainment sector and infrastructure. The Las Vegas location will serve as a prototype, featuring haunted houses inspired by classic horror films and characters. The Chicago venue is expected to deliver year-round horror experiences.
