Constant Agitation Film Lab Opens 1st Storefront In Logan Square

Chicago, ILLocal News

Constant Agitation Film Lab has officially opened its first storefront in Logan Square, significantly enhancing accessibility for film photography. Owner Sophie Gomez, who taught herself film scanning, previously operated the lab from a basement in Evanston since 2022. The new location allows for an increase in film development capacity and community engagement through events like book clubs and photo exhibits. Gomez aims to double her output from 500 to 1,000 rolls per month, capitalizing on the resurgence of analog photography among young creatives. The storefront also features a photo studio and plans for a darkroom, emphasizing the lab's commitment to hands-on craftsmanship.

Gomez's connection to the Logan Square community, where she spent months searching for the ideal location, played a crucial role in her decision. The lab's expansion is seen as a milestone for women and people of color in the photography field, breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity. Customers can now conveniently drop off film rolls at the lab, enhancing the community experience.
