Zahrie Walls, a prominent hairstylist from Chicago, drowned in Lake Michigan Saturday amid dangerous weather conditions that led to multiple rescue operations. Walls, 27, was found near Navy Pier and pronounced dead after being rushed to Northwestern Hospital. Earlier in the day, a man operating a pontoon boat went missing after making a sudden turn near 63rd Street Beach, prompting ongoing search efforts. The Chicago Fire Department's marine unit reported conducting at least seven rescue missions and responding to over 20 distress calls between Saturday and Sunday. Walls' mother, Kizzy Wells, expressed heartbreak over the loss, noting her daughter's excitement for a day out with friends.

Friends organized a balloon release event in North Lawndale to honor Walls, with 300 to 400 attendees celebrating her life as a talented hairstylist and entrepreneur. Walls had worked with local rappers and was known for her vibrant personality.
