The Shedds Newest Otter Needs A Name. Heres How To Vote

Chicago, ILLocal News

Chicagoans can vote until Wednesday to name the Shedd Aquarium's newest otter, currently referred to as Otter 937. Rescued in June 2022, the otter was too young to return to her mother and has since been thriving at the Shedd. Visitors can select from a short list of names: Esa, Jade, Marina, and Rey. The Shedd will announce the winning name on June 30 after tallying the votes. Caretakers note that the otter is inquisitive yet calm and confident while socializing with other otters, such as Seldovia and Copper.

Her skills in foraging and diving are developing, allowing her to engage with visitors during voting. This initiative not only involves the community but also raises awareness about the importance of protecting sea otters. The otter’s story highlights the role of aquariums in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
