Red Flag Warnings issued as heat and wind increase Fire Danger in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan Counties
The National Weather Service issued Red Flag Warnings for eastern Chelan and Douglas Counties due to critical fire weather conditions, effective from 3 p. m. to 9 p. m. on June 9 and 10.
Forecasted winds of 10 to 20 mph and low humidity levels of 15 to 25 percent contribute to an elevated risk of rapid fire spread. An Extreme Heat Warning is also in place for Wenatchee, where temperatures may reach 101°F, stressing both residents and infrastructure. The NWS emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during high heat. Fire officials strongly advise against ignition sources, including fireworks and target shooting, during the warning period. Eastern Okanogan County also faces heightened fire risk, although no formal warning has been issued.
The NWS expects stronger winds to further increase fire danger through Wednesday. These warnings underscore the critical need for vigilance in the region as residents face intense heat and fire risks.
