Chelan, WALocal News

Helion, based in Everett, plans to site facilities on Chelan PUD’s Rock Island Dam property as part of an evolving partnership. The company has applied for construction permits for its office and assembly buildings, with plans to seek a conditional use permit for its generator building in the future. Chelan PUD is interested in the partnership to locate new sources of carbon-free energy while preserving local governance and meeting rising energy demands. The proposed lease agreement will be presented to the Board of Commissioners for approval post-negotiation. Additionally, the organizations are working on an interconnection agreement, essential for connecting Helion's operations to the existing transmission system.

This collaboration reflects a broader trend toward sustainable energy development in the region. The potential for enhanced energy diversification could also provide long-term benefits for local consumers. Chelan PUD's proactive approach positions it as a leader in the transition to renewable energy sources.
