Chelan-Douglas Land Trust celebrates 40 years of conservation
The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust has successfully preserved over 27,000 acres since its inception in 1985, focusing on environmental conservation and community engagement in Washington. Associate Director Angela Morris expressed the organization's commitment to providing public access to natural spaces. The Trust often collaborates with local organizations and individuals to secure funding and manage land effectively, as highlighted by Conservation Director Mickey Fleming. The lengthy conservation process involves numerous details, requiring patience and ongoing community support. The Trust manages nearly 7,000 acres and has conservation easements on an additional 15,000 acres, necessitating continuous maintenance efforts.
Education plays a crucial role, with programs aimed at children and families, including field guides and outdoor activities. The organization plans to strengthen its outreach efforts, which have led to increased membership and participation. With a new executive director set to join in June, the Trust is poised to expand opportunities for public engagement.
