Chelan Musician Earns Top Marks at State Solo Competition

Chelan High School senior David Kelly excelled at the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held on April 26, 2025, at Central Washington University. He performed the Marcello Oboe Concerto, showcasing his skill alongside pianist John Duff, under the guidance of coaches Lori Laughlin and Stephen Burdick. His performance earned him a spot in the top third of more than 20 oboe soloists, a significant achievement in a highly competitive environment. The annual contest brings together the best young musicians from across Washington, with participants qualifying through regional competitions. Kelly's dedication to music and hard work have made him a standout representative for Chelan.
