Lake Chelan Valley Boys Girls Club launches NFL Flag Football for ages 3-12

The Lake Chelan Valley Boys & Girls Club launched an NFL Flag Football program this spring for children aged 3 to 12, featuring teams divided into various age groups. Angela Collins, the club's unit director, expressed excitement over the local interest, emphasizing the program's mission to create a positive sporting environment. Non-contact play, complemented by mandatory mouth guards, ensures safety while allowing kids to learn fundamental football skills. The season spans six weeks, with seven games played every Saturday, giving ample opportunity for participation. Each player will receive a jersey from the NFL, which they can keep post-season, reflecting the widespread engagement in youth football across the country.

The program not only promotes teamwork but also serves as a stepping stone for young athletes, including girls, interested in competitive sports. The club operates on a model of inclusivity, never turning away children for financial reasons, with support from local donations. A benefit golf tournament set for June 26 aims to further support the program, featuring sports celebrities from the University of Washington and Washington State University.
