Chelan, WALocal News

The Washington State Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is now accepting applications for the 2025 season, which will run from June 1 to October 31. This program provides benefit cards to low-income seniors age 60 and older, enabling them to buy fresh produce, honey, and herbs at farmers markets across Washington. Eligible participants must have a monthly income below 185% of the federal poverty level, as defined by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. The program is supported by a combination of USDA grants and state and local funding. Cards will be mailed to approved participants in early June.

Seniors interested in applying can do so through local agencies, such as Aging & Adult Care of Central Washington. Applications are available online, at senior centers, or by phone for mailed forms. This initiative aims to improve access to nutritious food for vulnerable seniors in the community.
