DNR Kicks Off Wildfire Prevention Season With Smokey Bear Trailer Project - Lake Chelan News and Information
The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has kicked off its wildfire prevention season by launching a project in collaboration with Smokey Bear, aimed at reducing human-caused wildfires. Funded through a federal grant from the United States Forest Service, the initiative involves wrapping ten fire cache trailers with colorful graphics and QR codes that disseminate vital fire prevention information. These trailers act as mobile command centers, deployed across Washington State to provide essential resources for fire suppression efforts. The QR codes on the trailers link to various agency webpages and educational animation videos developed with Next Day Animations, designed to raise awareness and promote fire safety practices. The four-part video series covers topics such as burning safety, equipment safety, campfire safety, and creating wildfire-ready neighborhoods.
Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove emphasized the importance of community involvement in fire prevention, stating that this project will enhance visibility on highways and rural roads. By engaging the public with accessible information, the DNR aims to foster proactive behaviors that can help limit the occurrence of human-caused fires. This initiative reflects a comprehensive approach to wildfire management, integrating education and resources to protect both communities and natural landscapes.
