The City of Chelan has secured a $317,261 grant from the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) to improve pedestrian safety at Farnham Street and Webster Avenue. This funding will cover 90% of the project's eligible costs, with the city contributing the remainder. The project aims to enhance a critical pedestrian crossing adjacent to Chelan High School and the Lakeside Trail, improving safety and mobility for residents and visitors. Planned improvements may include upgraded crosswalk markings, rapid flashing beacons, and curb enhancements. Mayor Erin McCardle highlighted the importance of this grant in advancing community safety initiatives.

This project is part of Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which funds projects aimed at reducing climate pollution and enhancing public health. The city will begin the necessary steps to formalize the grant agreement and initiate the design process. Construction timelines will be communicated as the project develops.
