County Seeks People Interested in Serving on Committees for Voters Pamphlet
Chelan County is forming committees to draft arguments for and against a proposed sales-and-use tax increase to enhance emergency communication systems at RiverCom. The proposition seeks to raise the tax by 1/10th of 1%, equating to 1 cent for every $10 spent, to ensure sustainable funding for critical 911 infrastructure. Residents interested in joining these committees must submit their names and contact details to the Chelan County Commissioners Office by 5 p. m. on December 4.
The proposal, which stems from Resolution 25-93, is set to be voted on during the February 10 ballot. Approval of the tax increase hinges on a similar measure being enacted in Douglas County. Each committee must include at least one member willing to be publicly identified in the Local Voters’ Pamphlet, which outlines ballot titles and arguments. The initiative aims to bolster regional emergency communication facilities, enhancing public safety and response capabilities. Engaging local residents in this decision-making process highlights the community's commitment to improving emergency services.
