Washington State Patrol Increases Emphasis Patrols over Thanksgiving Break
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) will conduct heightened emphasis patrols from November 20 to 30 to ensure the safety of students traveling for Thanksgiving. This initiative targets speeding, distracted driving, and other violations that can lead to collisions, particularly in Adams, Grant, and Kittitas counties. Troopers will increase their presence on State Routes 26 and 17 and Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass. Motorists are encouraged to pay attention to posted speed limits and prepare for winter driving conditions, as weather can change rapidly. Captain Daniel Richmond of WSP noted, “Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends.
Let’s all get to where we need to be safely so we can enjoy the holiday. ” Travelers should check the Washington State Department of Transportation's website for updated road and weather conditions. Additionally, students are advised to prepare their vehicles with winter safety kits, ensuring all fluids are topped off and batteries are functioning well. Good all-season or snow tires, as well as chains, may be necessary for safe travel over mountain passes.
