Mutch Receives States 2025 Life-Saving Award
Deputy Dominic Mutch of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office received the prestigious 2025 Washington State Marine Patrol Life-Saving Award for his heroic rescue in Lake Chelan. In July, while patrolling alone near Don Morse Park, Mutch saved an individual struggling to stay afloat after their personal watercraft overturned. The victim lacked a life jacket and could not re-board, prompting Mutch to provide a personal flotation device and guide them to safety over nearly 100 yards. This award marks the third consecutive year that the sheriff's marine program has garnered state recognition, following previous honors such as the 2023 Marine Deputy of the Year. The Marine Patrol Unit is tasked with enforcing laws and conducting rescue operations across Chelan County's numerous waterways.
These efforts not only enhance public safety but also include educational initiatives for boating safety. The unit's responsibilities extend to maintaining navigational markers and assisting in investigations of marine incidents. Local residents benefit from the ongoing commitment to safety and education by the Marine Patrol Unit, which includes ten volunteers assisting during the boating season.
