Horse Lake Road Closes Earlier than Planned

Chelan, WALocal News

Horse Lake Road in Wenatchee closed for the winter season on Dec. 1 due to slick conditions from recent rains. Chelan County Public Works locked the gate at the bottom of the road to prevent damage to the dirt surface. The road will remain closed until April 1, following a seasonal schedule aimed at protecting the roadway. The freeze-thaw cycles in winter can make dirt roads more vulnerable to damage from vehicles.

Oklahoma Gulch Road near Entiat and Mountain Home Road in Leavenworth are also set to close on the same date. Weather conditions may prompt early or extended closures as necessary. The decision also considers the protection of wintering mule deer herds in the area. These closures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain road integrity and wildlife safety during harsh weather conditions.
