The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office awarded over $7. 6 million in grants for outdoor projects in Chelan County, part of a broader $67 million statewide funding initiative. Among these, $175,000 will maintain 13 campgrounds and recreation sites within the Entiat and Chelan Ranger Districts. The Bear Mountain Trailhead project will receive $380,788 to develop a trailhead with parking and facilities, enhancing access to 6,300 acres of public land. The Lake Chelan School District’s new sod soccer field project, funded by a $1,124,827 grant, aims to expand athletic opportunities for students and the community.
The U. S. Forest Service plans to improve maintenance at various recreation sites, including trash removal and facility repairs. Megan Duffy, director of the Recreation and Conservation Office, highlighted the significance of these investments in fostering outdoor enjoyment and environmental stewardship. The grants were allocated through a competitive process, ensuring that the most impactful projects receive support.
Such funding not only enhances local recreation but also bolsters the economy and job creation in the region.
