RiverCom seeks voter support for 911 upgrade funding in February 2026
RiverCom 911 has announced a proposal for a sales tax increase aimed at modernizing emergency dispatch services in Chelan and Douglas counties. Voters will decide on the measure during a special election on February 10, 2026, which seeks to add one-tenth of one percent to local sales tax. The funding will address outdated infrastructure and improve radio coverage in areas such as Blewett Pass and Lake Wenatchee. Doug Jones, RiverCom's Executive Director, highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that current facilities are “stressed beyond capacity. ” The proposal also includes plans to eliminate $1.
5 million in annual user fees currently paid by local emergency agencies. This change would allow those funds to be redirected to other local needs. RiverCom plans to pursue cost-effective solutions, including cash payments to minimize long-term debt. Community information sessions will take place in January 2026 to inform residents about the proposal.
