Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Sunday, September 21, 2025

Chelan, WALocal News

Gusty winds have intensified fire activity in the Lower Sugarloaf Fire, now affecting 28,387 acres with only 22% containment. Firefighters are actively engaged in mop-up operations, strategic burning, and addressing spot fires to secure fire lines. Successful operations yesterday allowed crews to contain significant portions of the perimeter near Dry Creek and Chumstick Creek. Today's cooler temperatures enable mop-up efforts while preparing for future burns where conditions permit. Evacuation advisories are in place in Chelan County, and an American Red Cross shelter is available if needed.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented forest closures around the fire area to protect public safety. Weather conditions include scattered showers and humidity levels between 40-60%, but minimal precipitation is expected. Fire crews remain vigilant as winds may still pose challenges in certain areas.
