Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Tuesday, September 23, 2025
The Lower Sugarloaf Fire has now burned 29,955 acres and is 22% contained as of September 23, 2025. In a collaborative effort, eleven participants from the Wolf Creek Job Corps Fire Program are working alongside nine U. S. Forest Service firefighters to clear brush and small trees along a contingency line. This work helps secure the fire's edge while providing participants with hands-on firefighting experience.
Crew Boss Skylar Shrum noted that the program instills a strong work ethic and professionalism in young adults, aiding their educational and training pursuits. Moments like these highlight the dual role of wildfire response: addressing current emergencies and preparing the next generation for future service. The community is invited to a meeting this evening at 6 PM at the Entiat School District to learn more about the situation and ongoing firefighting efforts. Residents can reach out via the fire information phone number or visit the Inciweb page for updates. The Wolf Creek Job Corps initiative exemplifies the commitment to both immediate action and long-term community preparedness.
