Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Monday, September 8, 2025

Chelan, WALocal News

The Lower Sugarloaf Fire has expanded to 12,453 acres, attributed to strong northwest winds and dry fuel conditions. Evacuations for Ardenvoir and the Entiat River Valley have been escalated as firefighters actively work to contain the blaze using various suppression tactics. Significant fire activity has been observed on the southeast side, prompting burn operations along Entiat Summit Road to secure fire lines. Even with cooler temperatures, the dry fuels remain highly flammable, maintaining active fire behavior. The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert due to smoke visibility impacting communities such as Plain and Wenatchee.

Residents are urged to monitor evacuation levels and air quality updates from local officials. The American Red Cross has established an evacuation shelter at Warehouse Community Church in Entiat. For public safety, the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a closure around the fire area.
