Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Saturday, September 13, 2025

Chelan, WALocal News

The Lower Sugarloaf Fire remains a significant concern for firefighters who are actively engaged in containment efforts. With temperatures rising and vegetation drying out, crews focus on burning operations to secure fire lines, especially on Gold Ridge and Forest Service roads 315 and 52. Increased air support from helicopters assists in controlling the fire's spread near Moe Ridge and Forest Service Road 5801. Evacuation advisories at levels 1 and 2 have been issued for parts of Chelan County, with the American Red Cross opening a shelter for those affected. Heavy smoke continues to impact visibility across communities including Plain and Wenatchee, leading to an Air Quality Alert from the National Weather Service.

Firefighters remain vigilant, monitoring the fire perimeter and preparing dozer lines as they anticipate similar fire behavior. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a closure around the fire area to ensure public safety. Structure protection teams remain active in the Entiat Valley and Chumstick Creek corridor, assessing and preparing for potential evacuations.
