Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Saturday, September 20, 2025

Chelan, WALocal News

The Lower Sugarloaf Fire, now covering 23,883 acres, is only 20% contained as of September 20, 2025. Firefighters employ a full suppression strategy, utilizing both direct and indirect line construction to secure critical areas. Seven Type 1 heavy helicopters have been deployed to assist ground crews in managing intense heat and spot fires. The weather is expected to contribute to active fire behavior, with humidity at a low 18% and winds gusting up to 25 mph. Communities to the east and southeast face increased smoke visibility, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an Air Quality Alert.

Firefighters are conducting mop-up operations while preparing for potential spotting from winds in the area. The situation remains dynamic, with night shifts staffed to monitor and respond to fire activity. Continued efforts aim to bolster containment ahead of a predicted cold front expected to lower temperatures tomorrow.
