Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Friday, September 19, 2025

Chelan, WALocal News

The Lower Sugarloaf Fire has burned over 22,000 acres and is currently 20% contained as of September 19, 2025. Firefighters are executing planned burning operations to enhance containment lines, relying on pre-existing infrastructure from previous incidents. Today, temperatures are expected to peak, reaching between 75 and 85 degrees, with low humidity creating conditions for active fire behavior. Chelan County Emergency Management has issued level 1 and 2 evacuation notices for certain areas, with an American Red Cross Shelter established at the Warehouse Community Church in Entiat. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has implemented a forest closure for safety, and smoke is affecting visibility in nearby towns.

Air Quality Alerts are in effect due to smoke accumulation in valley inversions. Fire crews are committed to a full suppression strategy, conducting mop-up operations and preparing for further burning as necessary. Community support remains vital as local residents rally behind firefighting efforts.
