Wenatchee Valley College awarded 130,000 for workforce development project
Wenatchee Valley College has received $130,000 from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges to enhance its workforce development efforts. This funding supports the Competency-Based Education for Industry and Degree Seeking Students project, aimed at redesigning programs to better meet local workforce needs. The college's Workforce Education department will work with faculty to convert suspended programs in machining, graphic design, and engineering into Continuing Education courses with clear competencies and assessments. Dean Tracy Donnelly noted that successful non-credit programs often lead to increased enrollment in credit programs. The initiative will also involve collaboration with industry leaders to identify necessary training for competitiveness.
This funding is part of the Workforce Development Fund, which supports customized training and skills development. By aligning programs with industry needs, WVC aims to enhance its appeal as a college of choice for students and local businesses. The project illustrates the college's proactive approach to adapting to the changing economic landscape.
