Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Thursday, September 4, 2025
The Lower Sugarloaf Fire, ignited by a lightning storm on August 31, 2025, is burning in Central Washington, specifically 17 miles west of Entiat. As of September 4, the fire has spread to 6,223 acres and remains 0% contained, primarily affecting terrain previously scorched by the 1994 Tyee Fire and 2018 Cougar Creek Fire. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation advisories for residents in the fire zone. Fire crews are focusing on protecting structures in Dry Creek while also reinforcing pre-existing fire lines to limit the fire's growth. A Red Flag Warning is in place due to hot temperatures and low humidity, which are expected to exacerbate fire behavior.
Smoke is visible in nearby communities, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an Air Quality Alert. The Southern Area Type-3 GRAY Team has taken command of the fire, with plans to transfer control to the Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 3. The fire's rapid growth and the ongoing response highlight the urgency of the situation and its impact on local residents.
