Lower Sugarloaf Fire Update Friday, September 5, 2025
The Lower Sugarloaf Fire has expanded to over 7,700 acres, prompting the Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 3 to take command from the Southern Area Type-3 Gray Team. Firefighters are actively engaged in a full suppression strategy, focusing on constructing control lines and protecting structures. The most significant fire growth occurred in the Tillicum Creek and Indian Creek drainages, with operations today directed at securing roads and constructing a dozer line from Mosquito Ridge to the 58 road. Weather conditions are hot and dry, with a low-pressure system expected to bring thunderstorms and gusty winds, increasing the potential for extreme fire behavior. Evacuation advisories have been issued for parts of Chelan County, affecting local residents.
Smoke from the fire is impacting communities such as Plain, Leavenworth, Wenatchee, and Entiat, leading the National Weather Service to issue an Air Quality Alert. Additional resources are being deployed to assist in structure protection and containment efforts. The situation remains critical as crews work to mitigate fire spread and ensure public safety.
