Labor Day Weekend Safety Tips

Chelan, WALocal News

As Labor Day weekend approaches, the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office emphasizes the importance of fire safety amid increased outdoor activities. In 2024, fire departments responded to 4,647 incidents during the holiday, resulting in over $2 million in property losses. Residents should adhere to local burn bans and use grills outdoors, ensuring they are safely distanced from structures and always monitored. Proper vehicle maintenance is critical to prevent exhaust sparks from igniting dry grass, and parking on such surfaces is strongly discouraged. Additionally, recreational equipment must be secured to prevent hazards while traveling.

Fireworks usage is illegal in Washington State during this period, further enhancing public safety. By following these guidelines, residents can contribute to a safer and more enjoyable Labor Day weekend. The Fire Marshal’s Office remains available for further inquiries at (360) 596-3904.
