Pomas Fire Update Monday, July 28, 2025
Over 700 firefighters are engaged in suppressing a fire near Holden Village and Lucerne, with a strategic focus on limiting its spread and ensuring safety. Despite low fire behavior recently, forecasted rising temperatures and thunderstorms could heighten fire activity, prompting caution among crews. Workers are preparing contingency lines along the Entiat and Chiwawa Rivers by thinning dense vegetation to mitigate risks. The fire currently poses no threat to the Pacific Crest Trail, which remains 12 air miles away. A Level 1 Fire Advisory is in effect for Holden Village, including the nearby Rio Tinto Mine water treatment plant.
The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has enacted a closure order, and unauthorized drone activity is prohibited in the area due to a Temporary Flight Restriction. Fire managers are collaborating with Resource Advisors to protect sensitive ecological values while repositioning crews as needed. Public safety remains paramount as conditions evolve.
