Seventeen Purple Heart recipients to be honored at Wenatchee ceremony
On August 7, Wenatchee will hold its second annual Purple Heart ceremony to honor 17 local veterans wounded or killed in combat. The Chelan County Veterans Program organizes this event, which will take place at the Wenatchee Veterans Hall from 3:30 to 5:30 p. m. A Presentation of Colors will be performed by Wenatchee Valley VFW Post 3617 and American Legion Post 10, and light refreshments will be served. John Tamngin, the Chelan County Veterans Services officer, remarked on the significance of meeting Purple Heart recipients, noting the honor it represents.
The names of this year's honorees will be added to a plaque in the Hall of Honor, recognizing their service from World War I through Iraq and Afghanistan. The Purple Heart, the oldest military decoration in use today, is awarded to those who have been wounded or killed in combat. In alignment with Wenatchee's initiative, the cities of Chelan and Waterville will also declare themselves Purple Heart Cities, joining others in the region. Signs will be installed at their entrances to commemorate this designation, funded by American Legion Post 10.
