Pomas Fire Update Tuesday, July 22, 2025
Firefighters are tackling the Pomas Fire, which has presented significant access challenges due to steep terrain and limited roads. Recent rainfall of a quarter to half an inch has helped mitigate fire behavior, allowing over 700 personnel to focus on suppression efforts. Fire managers conducted reconnaissance flights after lightning storms but found no new fire starts. Crews are actively removing hazard trees and securing hot spots, while a Level 1 Fire Advisory remains in effect for Holden Village. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is under a closure order for safety as heavy equipment works on secondary firelines.
Firefighters are also monitoring for potential lightning holdovers in the coming days. The fire is currently 12 air miles from the Pacific Crest Trail, which is not threatened. Weather forecasts predict possible thunderstorms and isolated smoke as temperatures rise.
