Runway Closure at Pangborn Memorial Airport This Fall
Pangborn Memorial Airport will close its runway from September 2 to October 3, 2025, for a major rehabilitation project costing approximately $20 million. The Federal Aviation Administration will fund 95% of the project, with the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority covering the remainder. Key improvements include full depth milling, a new storm drainage system, enhanced airfield signage, and installation of a new rotating beacon. Helicopter operations will continue as usual, while General Aviation pilots are advised to use alternative airports such as Lake Chelan and Ephrata. Jim Huffman, Board President of the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority, emphasized the project's importance for long-term safety and operational excellence.
The closure may pose short-term challenges but represents a crucial investment in the airport's future. The upgrades are designed to preserve and protect this vital regional asset, ensuring its reliability for years to come.
