Manson Community Council seeks roundabout at SR 150 intersection amid safety concerns

Chelan, WALocal News

The Manson Community Council sought a roundabout at the State Route 150, Mill Road, and Wapato Lake Road intersection during a Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council meeting. President Mike Kirk expressed concerns about safety due to limited visibility and heavy traffic, with June seeing over 3,900 vehicle counts. The intersection's congestion is heightened by a gas station and the nearby Colville Confederated Tribes RV Park. Chris Keifenheim from the Washington State Department of Transportation reported 13 collisions over the last decade, suggesting funding through grants rather than state resources. Mayor Erin McCardle stressed the growing traffic issues and the potential for emergencies.

The community’s push for improvements reflects a broader concern over safety as tourism peaks. With the intersection not prioritized for state funding, local efforts are essential for enhancing traffic safety. The situation underscores the need for proactive measures to prevent future accidents.
