Chelan County will receive nearly $6 million in state grants to enhance outdoor recreation and conservation efforts, reflecting a broader $148 million state funding initiative. This funding, allocated by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board, supports projects including trail maintenance, park expansions, and wildlife conservation. Among the largest awards is $2. 64 million for replacing docks at Twenty-Five Mile Creek State Park, aimed at improving safety and access. The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust will also receive $60,790 for trail repairs across the Wenatchee Foothills Trail system.
Local officials emphasize that these grants are crucial for community health and economic vitality, ensuring Washington remains a top destination for outdoor activities. The funding includes $710,000 for habitat preservation near Colockum Creek and $197,500 for restoring endangered species habitats. Of the 411 applications statewide, Chelan County's funding ranks among the top 10 recipients. The grants signify a strong commitment to enhancing recreation opportunities and conserving natural resources across the state.
