Pomas Fire Update Thursday, June 19, 2025
The Pomas Fire, located in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, is spreading due to winds and is now affecting areas north into Ice Creek and northeast into Aurora Creek. Fire personnel are actively evaluating containment strategies using previous lines from past fires. Fire behavior is marked by spotting and group tree torching, with aviation resources deployed as needed. Although cooler temperatures are anticipated, the presence of dead timber and low humidity poses ongoing challenges for firefighting efforts. Smoke from the fire is impacting visibility across the Entiat Valley and Lake Chelan areas, prompting air quality concerns.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is enforced over the fire zone, and access to the Glacier Peak Wilderness has been restricted for safety. Crews will wrap critical infrastructure, such as the Myrtle Lake bridge, with fire-resistant materials. The fire currently poses no threat to the Pacific Crest Trail, which is 12 air miles away.
