Chattanooga Fire performs rope rescue on bluff at Greenway Farms, warns of danger
On May 28, 2025, a man fell over 30 feet from the Greenway Farms rock quarry, necessitating a rescue by the Chattanooga Fire Department. Firefighters set up a pulley system to hoist him back up after he suffered multiple injuries. Assistant Chief Terry Knowles explained that rope rescues require significant manpower, with five fire crews, including specialized squads, responding to the incident. The department has conducted five rope rescues at this location in the past five years, prompting annual training sessions to ensure crew familiarity with the site. Officials emphasize the importance of public safety, advising visitors to stay on designated trails and avoid the edges of bluffs.
Lindsey Rogers, a department spokesperson, cautioned against alcohol use in the area, particularly as warmer weather increases foot traffic. The city code prohibits alcohol in parks without prior approval, aiming to enhance safety for all visitors.
