Skagit Valley College will launch a 14-month education and research sailing expedition, "Around the Americas," from the Port of Anacortes on May 3, 2025. This initiative focuses on enhancing educational opportunities and promoting environmental awareness among its participants. Key collaborators include the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and One Ocean Diving, both recognized for their contributions to marine science. The expedition will traverse various marine environments, including the challenging Northwest Passage, to study ecological impacts and foster community engagement. Local Anacortes residents are encouraged to participate and contribute to the project, highlighting its regional significance.

Mark Schrader, known for his extensive experience in ocean research, will lead the expedition. The project aims to inspire a new generation of marine stewards and researchers. With its launch, the expedition marks a significant step in combining education with real-world environmental challenges.
