CASCADIA EXHIBIT SHOWCASES 55 WOMEN ARTISTS
The Dakota Gallery in downtown Bellingham, WA, is set to unveil an exhibition showcasing the works of 55 women artists, coinciding with the CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival on April 4. This year's event marks a significant increase from the previous year's exhibition, which featured 36 artists. Curator Barbara Matilsky believes that the diverse array of themes, styles, and media will create a captivating visual experience for attendees. She emphasizes the growing visibility of women artists, which is especially crucial given current threats to women's rights in various regions. The exhibit is free and will remain open to the public until May 24.
With last year's opening drawing over 300 attendees, there is anticipation for another strong turnout. Matilsky's work highlights the substantial contributions of women to the contemporary art landscape, reflecting a shift from the past when few women were represented in major exhibitions. The event not only celebrates artistic talent but also underscores the importance of recognizing women's achievements in the arts.
