Skagit County Solicits Feedback for Draft 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan
Skagit County has opened a survey to collect community input for the 2025 update of its Hazard Mitigation Plan, which will remain accessible until August 15 at 4:30 p. m. The initiative aims to capture local concerns regarding hazards and natural disasters, ensuring that the plan reflects community priorities. This plan identifies natural disaster risks and outlines strategies for safeguarding residents and properties. To remain eligible for federal disaster assistance, local jurisdictions must update their hazard mitigation plans every five years.
The most recent plan, adopted in May 2020, facilitated Skagit County's access to a $1 million community development block grant for improvements to the Concrete Community Center. Additionally, it supported hazard mitigation grants for property buyouts and home elevation projects. Residents and businesses benefit from the plan, as it aims to reduce risks associated with potential disasters. For updates on the planning process, community members can sign up for email notifications or contact Skagit County DEM for questions.
